Pair of Drury homers leads Padres over Diamondbacks

Brandon Drury homered twice, Blake Snell pitched a season-high seven innings and the San Diego Padres routed the Arizona Diamondbacks 12-3 on Friday night.

San Diego stayed a game and a half ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers for the final NL wild-card spot. The Brewers came from behind to beat the New York Yankees 7-6.

The Padres took a 2-0 lead in the first on Drury’s homer to left field. He has a career 27 home runs this season, including seven since he was traded to San Diego from Cincinnati.

Drury extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth with a solo shot to center, recording his first multi-homer game since 2019.

For the Padres, Dominican Juan Soto 5-3 with three RBIs. Colombian Jorge Alfaro 2-1. The Venezuelan José Azocar 4-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.

For the Diamondbacks, Puerto Rican Emmanual Rivera 3-0. The Dominicans Ketel Marte 4-1 with a run scored; Sergio Alcantara 3-0; Geraldo Perdomo 3-0.
