When you’re outside, there’s an easy way to tell if a thundercloud is approaching. There are three signs that thunderclouds are approaching. “A black cloud is approaching”, “I hear rumbling thunder”, and “Suddenly a cold wind blows”. If you feel any of these changes, you should evacuate to a safe place immediately, as heavy rain and thunder may occur soon.
When a thunderstorm is approaching, the best place to evacuate is in a nearby solid building or in your car. Taking shelter from the rain under a tree is dangerous because lightning that strikes the tree can jump to people. If there is nowhere to evacuate to, squat down with your feet together and your head down, and cover your ears with both hands.
