Sánchez credits his parents for pushing him to get an education behind bars. His mother, of Venezuelan origin, Dexis Montiel, sent him books to study and his father, of Cuban origin, Enrique Sánchez, proudly kept a copy of his paralegal certificate obtained while he was still in prison through courses By correspondence. While in jail, he created a manual for inmates on how to further his training.
