After bankruptcy in Karlsruhe |
Nuremberg fires coach Klauss
Coach earthquake in Nuremberg!
At 9.30 a.m. on Monday morning, 1. FC Nürnberg officially announced. Robert Klauss (37) is no longer the coach of the second division.
It is the answer to a lack of continuous development and the miserable performance in the first games of the season. The club took just ten points from ten games in the second division. Far too little for the demands of the 2007 DFB Cup winner!
After the 0:3 bankruptcy on Sunday at Karlsruher SC, the bosses finally burst their collars!
Robert Klauss took over as coach in Nuremberg in July 2020. Before that, the football teacher was, among other things, an assistant coach at RB Leipzig under the then coach Julian Nagelsmann (45 games). In 82 games in 2.5 years in Nuremberg he got 30 wins and 21 draws. At the same time there were also 31 defeats! Too much of!
The balance of the last 18 games in particular is frightening across the seasons and far too little for the claims of the second division club! In 18 games, Klauss only got 16 points (average of 0.88 points per game).
Before the season, Nuremberg gave places 1 to 6 as the primary goal of the season. You are miles away from that.
Instead of hope for promotion, there is a risk of a relegation battle!
Under his leadership, the club only won four and drew one in their first 11 competitive games and has already lost six games. After the Karlsruhe game, the club are in 14th place and only two ahead of a relegation zone and Franconian rivals Greuther Fürth (17th).
Sports manager Dieter Hecking (58) and sports director Olaf Rebbe (44) finally pulled the ripcord and released Klauss late on Sunday evening. On Monday, the dismissed head coach is said to have officially said goodbye to the team.
Hecking: “We regret this decision, but it was unavoidable.”
And further: “Robert has done a good job here for more than two seasons. However, the development in the past few weeks has not been satisfactory at all. The way the team played in Karlsruhe and in a few games before that was unacceptable. We would all have been happy if we could have continued on our path of continuity combined with successful games.”
Who could be successor?
According to BILD information, a candidate as a successor is U23 coach Cristian Fiél (42). The former coach of Dynamo Dresden (August 2018 to December 2019) has been coach of the second team at 1. FC Nürnberg since July 2021.
His record: In 52 games he has 19 wins, 18 draws and 15 losses. That’s an average of 1.44 points per game. The regional league is currently in 4th place.
As Nuremberg announced, the assistant coaches Ersan Parlatan (45/was Klaus’s assistant coach since the beginning of September) and Frank Steinmetz (52) will take over the duties of the head coach who has been kicked out until further notice.
Next Sunday (1.30 p.m.) the club welcomes Holstein Kiel in their home game. Then points are urgently needed.
It is still uncertain whether Klauss’s successor will be on the bench.
