Marseille celebrates a clear victory in a curious game

Tuesday’s match in Group D of the UEFA Champions League between Olympique Marseille and Sporting Lisbon was curious. “OM” scored the first points of this CL season with a 4:1 home win against Sporting Lisbon, which had started with two wins.

The game started around 15 minutes late because the Portuguese bus got to the stadium too late due to the heavy traffic, even though it was a ghost game. Due to the riots in the duel between Marseille and Eintracht Frankfurt in September, no spectators were allowed.

Sporting took the lead after 51 seconds through Trincao. Then a tee shot by guest goalkeeper Antonio Adan failed, Alexis Sanchez kept his foot in the ball’s trajectory and it was 1:1 (13th). Four minutes later, Amine Harit made it 2-1 for the French, again a failed shot from Adan was the starting point of the Marseille attack.

Leonardo Balerdi made it 3-1 in the 28th minute. At this point, Sporting were already outnumbered because Adan allowed himself a handball outside the penalty area and was ruled out for stealing a goal (23′). That was the end of the match, Chancel Mbemba made the final score in the 84th minute.
