Hamois: Macors celebrates its anniversary with great fanfare

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

The evening was inaugurated with a work by Benoît Jacquemin (read below) made up of 41 glass diamonds, large formats, made for the occasion. His scintillating work overlooked the strong assembly of more than 600 guests and was an opportunity to recall the importance of the company’s patronage and the impact of Macors in the art world.

For his part, Gérard Sevrin, the boss of the company, honored all the workers of the company. Alongside its construction activities, Macors has been supporting contemporary artistic creation for many years. Since 1989, Macors has been part of the adventure Partners area. This gathering of 4 Namur SMEs organized exhibitions of contemporary art in an entirely new way for the time. Some are still visible outside the company. The adventure lasted 10 years. Ten years during which the current elite of Belgian artists will have been able to express themselves around wood, stone, metal, glass, etc. In 2013, Macors returned to the tradition of exhibitions, but only this time. In March 2018 came the culmination of these years of work to defend young Belgian creation: Macors was awarded the Caius de l’Engagement for its support for artist residencies. This year, it is therefore the artist Benoit Jacquemin who has taken possession of the company’s premises. The Macors prize, unlike the other prizes offered, allows the winner not to leave with a check but to set up an exhibition in its entirety by taking over the company’s offices.

Everything is set up thanks to the help provided by the company which provides residence, materials, labor and expert advice to the artist.
