Bands who have named Chekela as their own song have never mentioned the name of its creator.

Bands who have made a name for themselves by singing ‘Chekela’ as their own song have never mentioned the name of its creator.

The song ‘Chekeludikum Pree Theiyamtara… Taka Tara Takadhimi’ was a regular song by Thaikudam Bridge and the band Avial. The lyrics of the same song can be heard in the movie Sancharam with different lyrics. Isaac Thomas Kotukapalli’s name is shown as music director.

Jigsaw Puzzle’s song ‘Theekanal Vari Eriyunnu Suryaan’ was an album that was shown on Asianet when the Malayalam music album was released. This too was a song with lyrics changed to the tune of a song called Tara Takadhimi. But really this song ‘Tara Takadhimi’ is not by Avial Band, Thaikudam Bridge or Jigs or Puzzles.

Actually the creator of this song is M.N. Thangappan is the master. The late Manmaranja M.N. was a gifted writer, poet, dramatist and poet who grew up and worked in the school of thought of Poikail Appachan, who founded Pratyasha Raksha Deiva Sabha (PRDS). This song was written by a man called Thankappan. He wrote and sang this song for Akashvani in the 1970s.

It is interesting to note that the name of the Thangappan master, who passed away on 5th July 2010, has not been mentioned anywhere by the bands that made his name by singing his song ‘Chekela’ as his own song. These are the people who are now talking regarding the originality of the songs in the media.
