At the HIV Glasgow conference held in the eponymous city from October 23-26, the first data from the Gymede survey was presented, reports the site. Aidsmap. This study funded by the ANRS | Emerging Infectious Diseases focuses on HIV acquisition and the life course of men who have sex with men (MSM) born abroad and monitored in Ile-de-France. Data show that at least 38% of migrant HIV-positive MSM living in France contracted HIV after arriving in France. HIV infection after the arrival in France of MSM migrants was more common among men from North Africa (73%), Asia and Oceania (61%) and sub-Saharan Africa (53%). ) than among men from Europe (47%) or Latin America and the Caribbean (39%). This study shows that MSM born abroad are one of the populations most exposed to HIV in France. A finding that can be explained by an accumulation of vulnerabilities and discrimination (no papers, no housing or stable work, racism, homophobia, sex work, etc.). The results of this study highlight a high need for targeted HIV prevention and social support among foreign-born gay and bisexual men living in France.
