In its investigation, according to The Athletic, MLB is expected to ask the owner of the Mets (Steve Cohen) and Yankees (George Steinbrenner) “to provide records of any phone, text and email conversations that took place between them during the period in question.
The Players Association asked the MLB to initiate said investigation into whether this controversy violated the collective bargaining agreement that was signed after the work stoppage last year.
It is good to note that the collective agreement prohibits teams from sharing information about players’ contracts with each other, which could constitute a form of collusion or conspiracy.
Now, the MLBPA (players union) could file a complaint against both organizations, but then they would have to prove that Judge was harmed by the leaked comments.
