Nadal wins last game at ATP Finals, Fritz continues

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

Tennis superstar Rafael Nadal won his last group game at the ATP Finals and, despite being eliminated early, celebrated a halfway conciliatory end of the year. The Spaniard defeated the Norwegian Casper Ruud, who had already advanced to the semifinals, 7:5,7:5 in Turin on Thursday. Next is the American Taylor Fritz, who tamed Felix Auger-Aliassime from Canada in three sets with 7: 6 (4), 6: 7 (5), 6: 2 and now meets Novak Djokovic.

After his two opening defeats in the “Green Group”, Nadal had no chance of promotion. After four defeats in a row, the 22-time Grand Slam winner left the field as the winner. “At least I finished with a win, that’s important,” said Nadal following the match. Ruud was already a semi-finalist at the end of the season for the eight best tennis professionals of the year before the new edition of the French Open final.

Fritz prevailed in a tight duel between the finals debutants. The American managed to break Auger-Aliassime in the decisive set to make it 4: 2, but then he lost his nerve.
