The house was considered dusty for many years. Since the Dutchwoman Lotte de Beer took over as director, a fresh wind has been blowing through the Vienna Volksoper. For the debut in September, the German entertainer Harald Schmidt appeared in an operetta, on Sunday Brecht’s “Threepenny Opera” premiered with a more than unusual cast. In her carefree manner, Lotte de Beer not only upsets the Volksoper, the entire Viennese opera landscape is currently in a kind of optimistic mood.
