Vodafone has now too officially confirmedthat MMS will be switched off completely “from the end of January 2023”. The provider writes that the technology that was launched around 20 years ago is outdated and that users nowadays send pictures and videos almost exclusively via messengers like WhatsApp.
The situation is different with SMS, which by the way is currently celebrating its 30th birthday. “The SMS will be with us in the cosmos of short messages for many years to come. It is simply too simple and is still indispensable, especially for double authentication of access to online services or as a notification service for mailbox messages,” says Tanja Richter, Technical boss at Vodafone.
