On the 8th, Hokkaido Obihiro Police Station arrested Makiha Sawai (49), an elementary school teacher, on suspicion of negligent driving resulting in injury and hit-and-run.
At around 7:30 am on the 6th, Sawai was at the intersection of Nishi 18-jo Minami 28-chome, Obihiro City.
A 33-year-old man crossing a pedestrian crossing is suspected of running away from the scene despite being injured.
The man suffered minor injuries to his left knee and right elbow.
According to police, Sawai is believed to have been working at an elementary school after hitting a man on his way to work.
Suspect Sawai surfaced from the video of the drive recorder of a car running nearby, and was arrested two days after the incident.
In response to the investigation, Sawai denied the charges, saying, “I thought I hit the median strip. I didn’t think it was a person.”
