Florida Governor Ron DeSantis leads former President Donald Trump by 23 points among Republicans in a potential Grand Old Party presidential primary, according to poll results released Tuesday.
The USA Today-Suffolk University poll found that 56% of Republican voters prefer DeSantis, while only 33% support Trump.
Additionally, nearly two-thirds of GOP voters want DeSantis to run for president in 2024.
Trump recently announced his candidacy for the presidential race.
The former White House tenant was blamed by several members of his own party for the GOP’s disappointing performance in the last midterm elections.
Many Trump-backed candidates in key ballot races have been defeated.
