The National Directorate of Onemi delivered a balance on the situation of forest fires in Chile, indicating that 85 have been registered, of which 11 are in combat, 55 are controlled and 19 have been extinguished.

In addition, Tapia indicated that two people have died due to the fires, one in Melipilla last week and another this Friday in Quilpué.

“We have had two deaths since the weekend, one person in Melipilla and today a deceased person was found in Colliguay, but the cause is being investigated by the PDI,” Tapia said.

Regarding the cloud of smoke that appeared this Friday morning in Santiago, Tapia indicated that it was similar to a winter day with poor ventilation, and that in the followingnoon the air was at “normal levels.”

“The smoke scenario over the capital this morning might be assimilated to a winter day with poor ventilation conditions. They currently report to us that all the monitoring networks in the Metropolitan and Valparaíso regions show normal levels,” added Tapia.

Along the same lines, the Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilera, indicated that it is likely that clouds with smoke will be registered once more at dawn on Saturday morning.

“Considering that the fires continue to evolve and due to the weather conditions, there is a probability that tomorrow morning we will wake up once more with clouds and the smell of smoke in the city, so the recommendations are maintained,” said Aguilera.
