Kochi – Complaints that pictures of women are being copied without permission and circulated in obscene groups. Victimized women also say that pictures are taken through WhatsApp groups. An investigation by Manorama News found that women often do not know that their own pictures are being copied and circulated.
The victimized housewife revealed to Manorama News that she was devastated following learning that her picture was being circulated through a pornographic group and was so mentally drained that she might not even speak. ‘We don’t know which photo has been edited. Very upset. I also thought that people would portray me as a bad woman following this. When the neighbors came to know regarding the photo, they asked the mother if they were taking it without her consent. How can it be taken without consent like that? This is the way of speaking here. Don’t you know how to tell them’ – says the victimized woman.
Teri Kooti is the name of most of the pornographic WhatsApp groups. Members post pictures of strangers, friends, and even family members in the group. That includes even private moments. Photos that reach one group are then spread to different groups.
