It is a disappearance that arouses many comments. In Equatorial Guinea, opponent Julio Obama Mefuman died in prison. This was announced on Monday by his party, the MLGE3R. He had been detained since his alleged abduction in late 2019 in South Sudan. In March 2020, he was sentenced to 60 years in prison for “attempted coup”. The Foreign Secretary said Julio Obama Mefuman died in a hospital from an illness. But the opponent’s party accuses the regime of having tortured him. This death occurs two weeks after the announcement by the Spanish justice of the opening of an investigation in Madrid, for the kidnapping and torture of Julio Obama Mefuman. Amnesty has called for an urgent and independent investigation.
