Information deficit: a woman has to pay for her mammogram
From the age of 50, women are invited to take part in the cantonal breast cancer screening programme. An essential condition for being covered by basic insurance.
The bill is salty, the patient bitter. Her health insurance is clear, Tania* has to pay out of pocket for her last mammogram, the bill for which amounts to 525 francs. A significant sum for this 58-year-old Genevan. It was his gynecologist who, in December 2022, sent him for this check-up, “like every two years”. Because this is not the first mammogram for Tania, who celebrated her half-century eight years ago now. “And the basic insurance has always reimbursed me so far,” she says.
