“Paris and Ile-de-France have a huge deficit in terms of equipment, places to practice”

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

The Paris 2024 Games will be an opportunity and a global sounding board on the fight once morest discrimination, those concerning LGBTQI+, but also on equality between women and men. Paris will be in the colors of the rainbow. The Paris Games will be the games of freedom and of all diversity.

We will take this opportunity to say loud and clear our conception of a humanity in which we respect people regardless of their sexual orientation, their origins, their skin color. The 2024 Paris Games will be the first equal games: there will be as many female athletes and as many male athletes. And the female mayor that I am can only rejoice in that.

We should add that the IOC has been supporting refugee teams for several years. A team of refugees marched for the first time at the Rio Games in 2016. The IOC has created a foundation, the Olympic refugees fundation, in which I participate. We have also, for the Paris Games, thanks to the work of the social partners, and essentially of Bernard Thibault, set up a social charter which concerns both the protection of workers on the construction sites (safety, social rights), and also the integration, thanks to the games, of more vulnerable people who, thanks to all this, work on the construction sites of the Olympic sites. To date, 1.5 million hours of insertion have been performed.
