Riad Sattouf was born in Paris and spent his childhood in Libya during Gaddafi’s rule, Syria, and other Middle Eastern countries. In his book, The Arab of the Future, Sattouf describes his childhood experience with his father and his family. He was born to a Syrian father and a French mother.
In his illustrated biography, Sattouf sheds light on the period between 1978 and 1984, rich in cultural conflicts. This work of art was crowned at the 42nd edition of the Angoulême Festival with the main European satire award as the best graphic novel of the year 2014…
Sattouf was not yet three years old when he began his difficult journey between different countries. The writer narrates that trip in a comic and humorous way, through which he tries to convey the image of the Arab world during that period.
