The ‘border czar’ is Michael Banks, a former Border Patrol agent of 23 years. His last days were in January 2023, when he retired. In the press conference with the governor, from a point in San Benito where a section of the border wall is being built, he promised that, in his new role, it will make the state “the least wanted place for illegal migration to cross. I don’t think it’s that hard…we just need to be more aggressive”.
