For Zurich residents, the announcement has an all the more bitter taste as it is part of a series of closures of emblematic brands in its city center. Jelmoli, Switzerland’s oldest department store, will close at the end of 2024, 125 years after it opened at its current address on Bahnhofstrasse. Owner since 2009 of the sign and of the building recognizable by its glass facade, nicknamed the GlaspalastSwiss Prime Site promises a transformation of the premises that will last until 2027.
