Sotheby’s auction house offers more than 80 works of art from Al-Zayani’s collection, and the first collection will be revealed at Sotheby’s Dubai from February 28 to March 3.
This will be followed by an exhibition of the entire collection in London from 21-25 April 2023, ahead of the live auction on 25 April (along with Sotheby’s semi-annual online sale of 20th Century and Middle Eastern works, which closes on 27 April).
In this private collection, artists from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, Syria and North Africa reflect the prolific artistic output that has emerged in the Middle East over the past century. Each artwork explores myriad themes and mediums, each highlighting a special kind of aesthetic and angle of cultural heritage.
Abdul Rahman Al-Zayani, who lives between Bahrain and London, said that the public will be able to get acquainted with the collection, expressing his enthusiasm for these works to go to their next destination in new homes, where their aesthetics will be recognized and appreciated once more.
In this regard, Ashkan Baghistani, contemporary art specialist at Sotheby’s, says: “This auction comes to display the works that Abdul Rahman Al-Zayani collected at the beginning of his career in the field of collecting works of art, and takes us on the journey of a collector who started small but with a clear vision and bold taste, and believed in these works from all sides.” across the Middle East. By bringing in the best and most unique works of all, the sale represents a unique opportunity for budding amateurs to obtain rare and important works from art masters from the Middle East.”
