It was once the most widespread hairy predator in all of Europe. But as early as the 15th century, after numerous grazing cattle were hunted down in agriculture, towards the middle of the 19th century it was even threatened with extinction: the wolf. While the domestic predator was quiet for a long time, it has now come back into focus due to several sightings in Upper Austria (the OÖN reported).
