Possible charges: Trump’s team protests the ex-president’s innocence

Trump’s campaign team said on Tuesday about a photo of police preparations for possible riots in New York: “Barricades are being erected in front of the Manhattan courthouse at a moment as our nation awaits an announcement as to whether President Donald Trump will be impeached – even though he has not committed a single crime.”

Police in New York City have stepped up their presence on the city’s streets in the face of possible indictment against Trump over a hush money payment to a porn actress and possible protests from his supporters. Among other things, barriers were set up in front of the office of the responsible prosecutor and Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue.

Trump, for his part, had called on his supporters to protest over the weekend. “Protest, take back our nation!” he wrote on the online platform Truth Social. The possible indictment is related to a hush money payment to porn actress Stephanie Clifford, known under the name Stormy Daniels, before the 2016 presidential election by Trump’s private attorney at the time, Michael Cohen. Clifford says he had sex with Trump in 2006, which he denies.

It was initially unclear on Tuesday whether there would be charges against Trump – and if so, when they would be announced. Media speculated that the decision of the so-called grand jury could be made on Wednesday.
