The Master of Silence, the playwright Ödön von Horváth (1901-1938) is generally considered to be, is in the latest production of his all-time favourite Casimir and Caroline nothing to feel at the Burgtheater. Okay, we’re at the Oktoberfest, so it can get loud – away from the toilet facilities. But director Mateja Koležnik goes one step further. She places the folk play from 1932, which deals with the idea of exploiting love, right next to an emergency room: howling sirens, loudspeaker announcements, hectic crowds of stretchers.
