ROME (AP) — Pope Francis was released Friday from a Rome hospital where he underwent surgery nine days ago to repair a hernia in the abdominal wall and remove intestinal scar tissue.
The 86-year-old Argentine pontiff left the Agostino Gemelli University Polyclinic Hospital in a wheelchair, smiling and waving. He thanked the waiting crowd and got up to get into a small Vatican car.
