If hell has a courtyard, Adré is its backyard. Thousands of refugees are arriving every day in the small Chadian town on the border with Sudan: on foot, alone or in groups, young or old, wounded or emaciated. What they all have in common are the images from the hell they escaped from. “We had to blindfold our children so they mightn’t see the piles of corpses,” veterinarian Rabih Saleh told a reporter The world. “Even while we were burying our dead, we were shot at.”
