“You look like a pancake.” Or: “Are you a Milka cow?” Bianca S. often had to listen to these and other comments as a child. She has been suffering from vitiligo – vitiligo is the technical term – since her kindergarten days, the other children were not sparing with insults and teasing. Only then did she realize that she looked different from the other children. “As I got older, I often had identity crises, for example when I was out with my mother. She’s black, I’m white because of the disease – with spots. But at some point I got used to it and started to ignore the disease.”
