The tariff shield is lifted on Friday, as are the regulated gas sales tariffs (TRVG), for nearly 5.5 million subscribers. The tariff had been deemed contrary to the principle of European competition in 2017 and it was no longer possible to subscribe to it from 2019.
End clap for the tariff shield on Friday. After almost two years of price freezes, suppliers will once once more be able to charge the prices they want. But, this day also marks the end of the regulated gas sales tariff (TRVG). The tariff had been deemed contrary to the principle of European competition in 2017 and it was no longer possible to subscribe to it from 2019. Some households still depend on it.
A drop in the price of gas
But do not panic for these homes, no gas cut is to be feared. Maxime de la Raudière, Deputy Managing Director of the energy supplier comparator Selectra details the two possible options. “Either they can change gas supplier, or they will automatically switch to the Passerelle offer. This is the transition offer offered by Engie to its private customers,” he explains.
No increase in prices to fear either. On the contrary, the households concerned might even save money. “For several months, the price of gas has been falling dramatically on the wholesale markets. Suppliers can buy their gas cheaper and offer advantageous rates to customers,” says the Deputy CEO.
With Engie’s Passerelle offer, the consumer will save around 5%, while with other market offers, it is estimated that he will be able to save between 20% and 25% compared to the regulated tariff. Last point, if you switch to the Passerelle offer, you can always change gas supplier. It is by playing the competition that you will be able to benefit from the best price.
