It escalated almost exactly forty years ago, when the philosopher of science Larry Laudan, in a memorable work, stated that there was no working criterion to distinguish science from pseudoscience. One would do well to simply stop using the term pseudoscience. And in fact there is still no generally established scientific criterion.
