Nearly 40 tourist establishments in Brussels have obtained the Access-i label in one year

In one year, 38 tourist establishments in the Brussels region have obtained the Access-i label, the regional body visit.brussels announced on Tuesday. This label informs people with disabilities regarding the accessibility of various places in the capital.

A year ago, visit.brussels called on Access-i, a non-profit association specializing in evaluating the accessibility of public places, tourist attractions, parks, public events, etc. The Access-i label offers people with disabilities answers to questions such as “Is this place fully accessible to me?”, “What facilities are provided?”, “What difficulties do I have to consider?” and “do I need guidance?”. It also takes into account the specific needs of each person via a color code. Access-i reports are available online and outline all the strengths and weaknesses of the venue by type of disability.

A total of 18 museums, 15 sites hosting events and 5 accommodations received the label this year. Three events have also been certified: the Bright Festival, the Belgian Pride and the Iris Festival.

“Anyone coming to Brussels must be able to visit a museum, attend a concert or book a hotel room. Accessibility for people with disabilities must be reinforced and eventually become the norm”, underlines the Minister-President of the Region Brussels-Capital, Rudi Vervoort.

The partnership between the Region and Access-i extends over four years and should therefore give rise to new labels. Anyone managing a tourist infrastructure in the Brussels region can answer the call from visit.brussels. If the infrastructure meets a certain number of accessibility criteria, its manager can obtain regional aid to cover audit and certification costs.
