Tragic Death of Man in New York: BMW Plunges into East River

US authorities said Monday that the body of a man was pulled from the East River in New York, hours following he sped through a Queens park in a BMW bus and plunged into the water.

Police identified the individual as 24-year-old Martin Gonzales, according to the Daily News. The young man allegedly drove through Astoria’s Rainey Park, crashed into a metal fence and plunged into the river at regarding 3:30 on Sunday.

According to the police report, the submerged white BMW SUV was located by police shortly before 8:30 pm on Sunday. The driver was found dead inside the car and his body was taken to the Astoria Ferry pier, El Diario reported.

It’s unclear if Gonzales suffered a medical episode, was being chased by someone or purposely headed into the water. He lived in Centereach, Los Angeles, according to police, the Daily News reported.
