Kamala Harris Boosts Union Workers’ Wages in Federal Construction Projects: Bidenomics in Action

Philadelphia:Vice President Kamala Harris will raise the wages of union workers in federal construction projects. Vice President Kamala Harris was speaking in support of the administration’s new decision to raise wage levels for federally funded construction workers as part of a broader “bidenomics” push.
Speaking at the Finishing Trades Institute, the union’s training and education department, Harris highlighted the new law, which updates existing wage regulations under the Davis-Bacon and Related Acts (DBRA) that determine hourly wages for many union workers. The change would affect more than a million construction workers, many of whom lack a college degree, senior administration officials said Monday.
“But these standards haven’t been updated in 40 years. As a result, many workers are being paid far less than they deserve, which is not only wrong but completely unacceptable,” Harris said.
“A heavy equipment operator on federally funded construction projects makes as little as $17 an hour in Allegheny County, but can make as much as $28 an hour,” Harris said.
