In the United States, “the zombie drug” is devastating. In Philadelphia, some neighborhoods have become open-air shooting venues. They are hundreds to prick in the middle of the street to administer a dose of tranq: a mixture of fentanyl, a powerful painkiller, and xylazine, an anesthetic for horses.
The effects of this drug are almost immediate. People who consume it remain frozen and completely lose control. This characteristic posture, reminiscent of the “living dead”, gave the tranq its nickname: the zombie drug.
Sold at only five dollars per dose, this drug is very accessible but its effects are devastating.
