Vienna – The number of naturalizations in Austria fell by 18.3 percent in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year. “The decline is primarily due to the fewer cases of naturalization of Nazi victims and their descendants reported to date,” said Tobias Thomas, Director General of Statistics Austria in a broadcast on Tuesday. Citizenship was granted to 6,658 people in 2023, 833 of whom were foreign residents.
