Vienna (OTS) The Austrian Women’s Ring strongly criticizes the planned introduction of a “register of abortions” by the Tyrolean state government. “The supply situation for abortion in Austria is still inadequate – also in Tyrol. But the state government apparently has no other worries than spending money on a register that nobody needs. The motives for abortion are well known. What unintentionally pregnant women need is high-quality, low-threshold and free care.”

In Austria, religious and conservative forces are also repeatedly trying to attack abortion through the back door. On the other hand, it is important to stand up to defend women’s right to self-determination over their own bodies. “The Tyrolean state government should rather spend money to finance urgently needed women’s policy projects – the list is long, from protection once morest violence to the risk of poverty for single parents,” says Klaudia Frieben.
