According to the commune, a 22-year-old German tourist broke a piece of marble from the Fountain of Neptune in Florence while taking photos while climbing it.

The damage is estimated at 5,000 euros and he might also face a heavy fine. “There is no justification for such vandalism towards cultural heritage,” the city’s mayor said.

This fountain dates from the 16th century and was restored in 2018.
