In a (very) good position to qualify for the next Euro 2024, the Red Devils might be deprived of Thibaut Courtois in Germany next June. It was the No. 1 of the Red Devils and Real Madrid himself who suggested this on Sunday when he visited Remco Evenepoel during the last stage of the Vuelta which took place in the Spanish capital.
Intercepted by nos confrères de Het Laatste NieuwsCourtois gave his news while he is in full rehabilitation following tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee last August. “It’s going well with the revalidation but we have to proceed ‘step by step’. I will be on the sidelines for 7 to 9 months. If I’m lucky, I will be able to train and play around the month of may.”
It is difficult in this context to imagine Thibaut Courtois in top form for Euro 2024 which will begin on June 14. “The idea is to focus above all on the next season.” Courtois slipped. “Of course, if it’s possible, I would like to play one or the other match at the end of the season. But the sooner we start once more, the more risk there is of a relapse. And I don’t want that it happens.”
Courtois – who did not want to make additional comments – advocates caution and patience. It is therefore too early to comment on a possible participation of the Devils No. 1 in the next Euro.
