Arizona Diamondbacks Extend Winning Streak with Dominant Victory over San Francisco Giants

PHOENIX — Merrill Kelly pitched 6 2/3 solid innings, Corbin Carroll reached his 25th home run and 50 steals on the season and the Arizona Diamondbacks won their fifth straight game with a 7-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday.

The D-backs swept the two-game series. They have a one-game lead over the Chicago Cubs for the second of three NL wild card spots.

The Giants have lost five of their last six, falling to 76-76 on the season and are 3 1/2 games behind the last playoff berth.

Kelly (12-7) allowed one run on three hits, walking two and striking out five. The veteran right-hander bounced back following a rough outing in New York last week in which he allowed seven runs in five innings once morest the Mets.

San Francisco right-hander Logan Webb (10-13) allowed three runs on nine hits. He walked two in six innings and struck out six.

For the Giants, the Venezuelans Thairo Estrada 3-1; and Luis Matos 4-0.

For the Diamondbacks, Venezuelan Gabriel Moreno is 3-for-4, with one RBI. The Dominicans Ketel Marte 4-1, with one run scored and one RBI; Geraldo Perdomo 4-0. Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rivera went 1 for 4, with an RBI. Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Jr. 3-1.
