This Thursday, Father Patrick Desbois was present on the LN24 set. A specialist in the study of war crimes, he came to report on the horror of the acts committed in Ukraine. Father Patrick Desbois focuses his work on testimonies of torture. He explains that, even in Russia, torture methods are used once morest civilians in the administration, psychologically or physically, to force them to declare themselves pro-Russian.

Among these testimonies collected, some had a profound impact on the specialist, including that of a woman who wanted to testify from her hospital bed. “She had taken shelter in a corridor with her children to escape the missiles,” he explains. “Suddenly, a loud noise rang out. She looks at her daughter: her head was gone. She looks at her son: he was in a thousand pieces.”

For Father Patrick Desbois, the situation in Ukraine is different from his other investigations around the world for several reasons. “I would never have thought of investigating mass crimes once morest civilians in Europe,” he begins, referring to the proximity of war. “The murders of the Russians are in every sense, unspeakable,” according to Father Patrick Desbois. He therefore wants to work to bring justice to all the victims of the war in Ukraine.
