The United States risks finding itself in a paralysis of the federal state, plunging the country into logistical chaos and a political battle, with President Biden and the Republicans taking turns blaming each other.

Unless there is a last minute agreement, which is now almost impossible according to several specialists, the world’s largest economy is expected to operate slowly from Sunday: 1.5 million civil servants will be deprived of pay, air traffic will be disrupted, while visitors to national parks will find closed door.

“I remain optimistic, because we have a day and a half” for the Democratic and Republican elected representatives in Congress to find an agreement, declared this Friday the director of the White House Budget Office, Shalanda Young.

But neither of the two chambers of Congress, neither the Senate controlled by Democrats, nor the House of Representatives controlled by Republicans, has so far managed to adopt a finance law to extend the federal state budget, which expires on September 30, at midnight.
