Especially since it’s not the company’s only pan. Indeed, Ryanair is also being sued on several counts. In an interpellation in the Chamber, the Ministers of Justice, Vincent Van Quickenborne (OpenVLD) and Labor, Pierre-Yves Dermagne (PS) took stock.
First there are the complaints of 42 pilots of the company. They are allegedly employed as false self-employed by the Irish company and are now demanding payment of their social rights.
And then there are the cabin crew. Until 2019, Ryanair posted workers to Belgium via an Irish temporary agency. An illegal process. 1014 people are affected. There too, they should have been considered employees of the company. The result is a series of breaches such as inaccurate or incomplete individual accounts, non-payment of monthly income or annual premiums.
The Hainaut labor auditor has been investigating for years. But for its part, Ryanair denies everything and wants to go to court. A strategy according to Didier Lebbe of the CNE: “Ryanair has many more lawyers than human resources managers, that much is clear. We sue them and they are very happy because it never succeeds. They go from appeal to appeal. They have armies of lawyers and as long as the trials are not successful, they continue their irregularities and obviously reap profits.“.
A first trial, that of the pilots, should finally begin in court next December.
