On October 5, three sisters, a seminary student and their driver were abducted while on their way to Mbano to attend the funeral of the mother of one of the sisters.

Sister Gloria stated that the abductees were released on October 14. Freed sisters Rosemary Ejiowokogere Osiohemu and Josephine Mary Chinyekwo are members of the Missionary Daughters of Mother Ecclesia.

Kidnapping of priests and religious leaders has been a long-standing problem in Nigeria. It is part of a wider kidnapping phenomenon targeting foreigners, businessmen, politicians, government officials, diplomats and traditional rulers. Even ordinary citizens, including students, are often victims of gang abductions. This is becoming an “industry” in Nigeria.
