MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Marcus Caldeira of the West Virginia University men’s soccer team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week presented by University Apartments.
Caldeira had a historic performance once morest No. 1 Marshall on Oct. 18, registering WVU’s first hat trick since 2014. He scored two goals in 26 seconds in the first half to give the Mountaineers the lead in the Mountain State Derby before putting away his third of the match in the second half.
Caldeira has 12 goals this season which leads the Sun Belt and is fourth in the country. His four game-winning goals is also sixth in the nation.
The Ontario native will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 27, with the rest of the Mountaineers at Kentucky for the penultimate game of the regular season. Kickoff from Lexington is set for 7 p.m. ET.
This Week in Women’s Soccer: The Mountaineers return to play Monday night when they welcome Cincinnati to Morgantown for the regular-season finale at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium … it’s Senior Night, and kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

This Week in Volleyball: West Virginia (9-13, 2-7 Big 12) travels to Lawrence, Kansas, on Thursday, Oct. 26, and Friday, Oct. 27, to face the Kansas Jayhawks … both matches will be held at the Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena, first serve will be at 7:30 p.m. ET … Thursday’s match will mark the 25th meeting between the Mountaineers and Jayhawks, with Kansas taking the last match, 3-0, on Nov. 12, 2022.
Last Week in Volleyball: The Mountaineers hosted Cincinnati for two matches on Oct. 19-20, at the WVU Coliseum … West Virginia took the first match over the Bearcats, 3-2, for its second conference win of the season … Cincinnati took the second match of the series, 3-2.
Notes: West Virginia has two conference wins for the first time since 2021 … junior outside hitter Hailey Green collected 21 kills and hit .514 on 37 attempts on Oct. 19 … sophomore outside hitter Bailey Miller tallied a double-double on Oct. 20 with 16 kills and 12 digs.
This Week in Cross Country: The Mountaineers return to competition on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Big 12 Cross Country Championship in Ames, Iowa … the race will take place at the Iowa State University Cross Country Course … the women’s 6k is slated to begin at noon ET … awards will follow at 1 p.m.

Last Week in Tennis: Three Mountaineers represented the West Virginia University tennis team at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional in Lynchburg, Virginia on Oct. 19-22 … senior Momoko Nagato, junior Michaela Kucharova and redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik represented WVU in the tournament … the doubles pairing of Kucharova and Nagato advanced to the quarterfinals before falling on Oct. 22.
Notes: West Virginia has one fall tournament remaining with the Big 12 Individual Championships … the best performance this season by the Mountaineers came at the Martha Thorn Invitational in Morgantown, on Oct. 6-8 … West Virginia collected 12 wins during the three-day invitational, including two doubles victories and 10 singles wins.
