SIX loses 300 million euros in a very short time
The “office watch” of the SonntagsZeitung is an institution. Rumors, antics, success stories: Here you can read what’s happening in the economy beyond the big headlines.
It was a painful price drop: the shares of the French payment service provider Worldline lost 50 percent of their value on Wednesday. Around 3 billion euros vanished into thin air within a very short period of time. The reason for this is simply disappointing sales figures and the prospect that business will not improve any time soon. The shipper should be with Thomas Wellauer, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Stock Exchange SIX, raised eyebrows. The Swiss company holds more than 10 percent of Worldline, making it the largest individual shareholder. The crash cost SIX a whopping 300 million euros. But SIX doesn’t want to leave: “Our commitment to Worldline remains unchanged and our strategic investment remains important for us in the medium and long term,” says a spokesman. Maybe the share will once again climb above the price record of over 80 euros. It will probably take a while – it is currently trading at just 11 euros.
Stadler Rail defends itself against accusations that are not even in question
That it Stadler Rail, Rieter, Autoneum and Swiss Steel are not going wellmakes entrepreneurs Peter Spuhler obviously nervous. On Wednesday he had a statement on an article by CH-Media distributed via the Stadler Rail media office. In it “false allegations were made against Peter Spuhler and Stadler”. And: “These allegations are inaccurate and damage the reputation of Peter Spuhler and the company.” Peter Spuhler is neither the originator of a motion in the SP Council of States Roberto Zanetti and SVP National Councilor Diana Gutjahr Demand state aid for the distressed steel manufacturers – including Swiss Steel, in which Spuhler holds 20 percent of the shares. CH-Media didn’t claim that at all, but simply correctly stated that Spuhler would thus become a subsidy recipient. The statement does not say what the nature of the allegedly false allegations are. And what this has to do with Stadler Rail, which would not benefit from state aid at all, remains a secret from Spuhler.
New Swiss flight connection: If you want to go to The Hague, you have to be able to calculate well
The Swiss under boss Dieter Vranckx now offers a daily flight to Rotterdam-The Hague. However, that is deceptive. If you want to get from Rotterdam-The Hague Airport to the center of The Hague by public transport, it takes 50 minutes. However, if you want to get from Amsterdam Airport to the center of The Hague, it only takes 40 minutes. So if you want to go to The Hague, you have to be able to calculate well and hope that there are no delays.
Parmelin has the criteria for financial aid for consumer organizations checked
The Federal Council is of the opinion that the Babette Sigg presided over the consumer forum despite the marginal number of members revealed by the SonntagsZeitung and the predominance of business associations as collective members is entitled to federal subsidies. This is how the SVP Economics Minister answered Guy Parmelin recently a question from the Green Bernese National Council Kilian Baumann. Nevertheless, Parmelin is now going through the books. He is considering tightening the criteria for financial support for consumer organizations. It is planned to evaluate the criteria for the distribution of financial aid “over the course of 2024,” it says in his answer. With regard to this evaluation, Parmelin commissioned its internal audit department to check whether the criteria set out in the law are still appropriate – and whether they are actually being observed. If his department comes to the conclusion that this is not the case with the consumer forum, it would have drastic consequences for the organization: last year, the federal government subsidized it with 100,000 francs.
