Back in the spring, Digitization State Secretary Florian Tursky (ÖVP) emphasized the need for Austria to have its own AI authority. A lot of time has passed since then, and the necessary preparatory work has been done – but there is no appropriate basis for content. The authority should be primarily responsible for the implementation of the AI Act in Austria, and this is still being negotiated between the three EU institutions. It is questionable whether it will be completed this year. And if this does not succeed, complete failure next year cannot be ruled out given the upcoming EU elections.
