They saw a promising entry for the German team, as Kai Havertz opened the scoring in the 5th minute, but Ferdi Kadioglu and Kenan Yildiz turned the score around before the break. Gunner Niclas Füllkrug equalized shortly following the change of sides, but Yusuf Sari decided the Turks’ win in the 71st minute from a questionable penalty awarded for Havertz’s hand.

The Turks won over the Germans following 17 years. Nagelsmann suffered his first defeat since taking over in September following the sacked Hansi Flick. Before that, his men overseas defeated the USA (3:1) and drew with Mexico (2:2).

On Tuesday, the selection of the host country of the Euro will try to make amends in Vienna, where they will face another EC participant, Austria.

Preliminary football match in Berlin: Germany – Turkey 2:3 (1:2) Goals: 5. Havertz, 49. Füllkrug – 38. Kadioglu, 45.+2 Yildiz, 71. Sari from pen.
