British journalist Richard Lewis criticized the Dota 2 community for its inconsistent opinion regarding the Battle Pass. He believes that Valve canceled the battle pass precisely because of criticism from the community.

Do you know why you don’t have Battle Passes anymore? Because you yourself were whining regarding them. You complained that you mightn’t get the “Crystal” personality at level 400 of the Battle Pass: “I won’t be able to get it and I’ll miss it, Valve should stop this practice.” So Valve canceled the Battle Pass. Then you ask: “Can I return it?”

I’m regarding to voice an unpopular opinion, but if you can’t afford something and you’re crying regarding it, just shut up and find another job. I’m so tired of this… “I’ll miss the reward for level 400” – but I don’t, because I can afford it, I have the Aegis, I get to level 1,000 every year. I can’t afford a Lamborghini, but I won’t write to the automaker to make me a simpler version. If I can’t afford it, then I won’t have it – welcome to reality!

Valve announced the decision not to release the Battle Pass for The International 2023 on the night of June 20. The company abandoned the battle pass in favor of regular updates in various formats.
