Morocco Bank Deposits: Annual Increase of 4.6% in 2023, According to Bank Al-Maghrib

Deposits with banks stood at 1,133.98 billion dirhams (billion dirhams) during the first ten months of 2023, showing an annual increase of 4.6%, according to Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM).

Household deposits increased by 4.8% to MAD 848.1 billion, with MAD 202.1 billion held by Moroccans living abroad (MRE), while private company deposits increased by 8.2% to 192 MMDH, specifies BAM which has just published its “credits – bank deposits” dashboard for the month of October.

The rate of return on 6-month term deposits recorded, from one month to the next, a drop of 8 basis points (bps) to 2.44%, while that of 12-month deposits increased by 39 bps at 2.88%.

Furthermore, the minimum rate of interest on savings accounts was set at 2.98% for the second half of 2023, an increase of 147 bps compared to the previous half-year.
